Tui Na

tui-naPracticed in China for more than 4000 years, Tui Na is the deeply penetrating and vigorous massage therapy provided within the Traditional Chinese Medical (TCM) system, Tui meaning “push” and Na meaning “grasp.” Tui Na has become the most tried and tested effective massage therapy in the world!

As with other styles of Asian bodywork, Tui Na is designed to prevent problems, not just correct them. By keeping the body’s energy in balance, health is maintained. This is true not just for physical health, but for mental and emotional well-being as well. Tui Na speeds up the body’s ability to heal it self.

Tui Na can focus on specific problems, especially chronic pain associated with the muscles,
joints, and skeletal system, and works with the energy of the body at a deeper level. It’s especially effective for:

  • Joint pain (such as arthritis or rheumatism),
  • Headaches (including migraines)
  • Pain in the back, neck, and shoulders; sciatica
  • Digestive disorders and stress
  • Insomnia
  • Low energy, poor circulation

What to expect:
Tuina is performed over your clothed body. The practitioner may use a variety of techniques including brushing, kneading, rolling/pressing, and rubbing the areas between each of the joints to stimulate the energy, Qi (chee), to move through the meridians and the muscles. Techniques may be gentle or quite firm. The practitioner can then use range of motion, traction, and the stimulation of acupressure points.
